How did my puppy get Mange (scabies)?

So I have a 4 month puppy and he’s been with us for about 2 months. He is always in the house because he hasn’t had all his shots (today is his last series of shots) and there are no other animals in the house. Vet is treating my dog with dips, medicine and abn injection. My family and I were prescribed treatment creme which we all put on last night and today we r guna clean the house like crazy but I’m afraid we r gunna get reinfested!

See the thing is that we have 2 cats (well they became ours because we started feeding them and they sorta made this their home and we learned to care for them) but looks like they have never been treated for shots or anything. One looks like he has bald spots like mange but even then…how would he give it to me dog when the cat is never in the house…I was thinking…when we go out and feed the cats I know humans can’t get feline scabies but can we "carry" the scabies mites and then when we come in the house and touch my dog it can affect him? And he can catch it that way?

I need to find out the cause of the problem because I don’t want reinfestation!

And I am not looking to treat the cats in anyway. They r not ours. We just feed them. But I am hoping not to get rid of them either because we grew to care for them as well.

Please let me know some ideas for the cause of mange (scabies) on my puppy?

Scabies are highly cross contagious between dogs, cats and people. You can get it too so wear latex gloves when you bathe your dog, don’t pet him til it’s gone.Guess what? The cats are yours, if you feed them and keep them on your property according to animal control they are yours. You will have to either get rid of the cats or accept responsibility for them and have them vaccinated and properly cared for too. Your dog needs to be treated, with regular baths in medicated shampoo for scabies that will kill the mites Amitaz dip (miticide) and invermectin and given the antibiotic Cephalexin 500mg. I suggest you call a non-kill animal shelter to take the cats because it is harder to treat a semi-wild outdoor pet that will sleep where it can be re-infested with scabies, than to treat a real house pet. Good luck!
